Sometimes you meet someone and you just want to sit on a patio for hours chatting with them. Preferably with some strawberry lemonade and a giant bowl of roasted chickpeas. I haven’t met Joanna Goddard in person, but if you read her wildly popular and engaging blog, Cup of Jo, you know why it’s easy to feel like I have. Cup of Jo is one of my favorite blogs because of Joanna’s sweet, casual voice and fantastic content.

Today I’m excited to have a guest post on Cup of Jo, and it’s a recipe I’ve loved for as long as I can remember. My mom often baked this cobbler with a big can of peaches when I was growing up. Here I’ve updated it to use bright, fresh berries. It’s a chance to relish the last drops of summer.

I know what you mean, Julie. When I clicked the link on your Twitter to get here, I had no idea what I was in store for. But now once I’ve met this amazing berry cobbler and saw with my own two eyes how gorgeous and absolutely amazing it looks, I can never go back. SERIOUSLY. AMAZEBALLS. Can I face-plant it?

I just put this in the oven. So easy to prepare and is so pretty!
I baked it in a cast iron skillet, I’am sure it will taste as good as it looks.

I made this over the weekend using blackberries, strawberries, and black cherries. Same wonderful results. I did not use my cast iron skillet though as it desperately needs to be re-seasoned. Instead I used a 7×11 sized baking dish and am thinking that the 1/2 cup of butter could be reduced to 1/4 cup. I guess I do not care for extra melted butter showing around the edges of a finished dish. Funny thing – lots of fat mixed in a dish doesn’t make me gag, but seeing it floating around the edge almost makes me want to not eat it. I don’t see this in your pictures, so maybe the baking dish is what made the difference. Either way, I will be making this again. Yum. And sharing your recipe with my niece who aspires to be a chef.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Kathy! Yep, in my skillet it came out just like you see here, no excess butter, so I’d wager it was the pan. Let us know how it goes if you cut it down! Thank you 🙂

This looks delicious! A wine pairing that would do this recipe justice is a Banfi Brachetto d’Acqui Rosa Regale, a sweet sparkler from Italy.

Hi! I want to make this for my husband! He loves cast iron recipes AND berry cobbler! What size cast iron skillet did you put it in? Ours is a smaller one…HOWEVER, it might be the excuse I need to get a larger one. lol
